Nestled amidst some of the park's most recent volcanic activity, this site provides a rare chance to sleep surrounded by fresh lava. Located conveniently close to common walking paths and the visitor center, the area offers a rugged landscape for explorers. While seasonal access is restricted by weather and road conditions, visitors can trek in during the colder months. Each designated spot includes a picnic table and a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking. To ensure a spot, travelers must register using a credit card at an automated kiosk. It is a primitive experience where guests must stay on paved surfaces and limit their group size.
